For many years I worked with mixed media on large canvas. Over the past several years, however, I have been slowly lured away by the macro lens of my camera. Many painters strive to paint a canvas to look as realistic as a photograph - I find it exciting to create an abstract work of art with my camera. I feel most enthused when I manage to capture the colour, texture or light interplay in nature without showing literal depiction of the subject matter. This focuses attention on the sheer beauty in the tiniest of spaces in this great universe.
Experimenting with both acrylics and photography, I have found a blending of colour with minimal form allows me to enjoy the colours with little distraction into reality. The works become more meditative and calming. At the same time, it forces a search for some touch with reality, and thereby brings the viewer inward to connect with the spirit while looking for answers.
Pushing the everyday colour print to this extreme has produced some pleasing and unusual results... and it is fun!
