Michal Vizer

I am an artist living in a very small and essentially rural community (kibbutz) in the centre of a young, modern, bustling country with very ancient roots.
As a child and young girl, living in one of the many suburban areas surrounding London, I had a traditional Jewish upbringing and at the same time was steeped in the History and pageantry of Britain. The British Museum and The Victoria and Albert were my ""dreamlands"" and I would wonder at the displays laid out before my eyes.
Now I am able to express feelings, some of them not realized or suppressed for a long time, using all the cultural elements that I have soaked up over the years. Art history, a love of textile arts and decoration and the surrounding landscape I see from my window, all provide me with images that I can weave into my work.

Michal Vizer was born in London in 1943. She was educated in England and eventually emigrated to Israel.
1961 – 64 - Vizer studied Primary Education with Art studies as her major, at Goldsmith's College, University of London. She then came to Israel in July 1964 and settled in Kibbutz Tel Yitzhak, where she is a member until today.
She studied techniques of working with textiles (Embroidery with Gila Madar from the Tel-Chai College and bobbin-lace with Anna Karlova at ""Umanit"" in Jaffa).
Michal Vizer studied Art at the Tel Aviv School of Painting (Kalisher) from 1984 – 88.
In 2000 she studied etching in the Print Workshop at the Artist's House in Tel Aviv and since then continued working there independently.
She has exhibited many times with the Netanya Artist's Association (which she joined in 2002) in group exhibitions. In 2007 she received the Mayor of Netanya's Prize for excellence and in July 2008 had her prize exhibition. She has also exhibited with the Artists of the Print Workshop at the Artist's House in Tel Aviv in this venue and at others, including the Novosibirsk International Contemporary Graphic Biennale. In July 2007 Vizer had a solo exhibition of prints at the Tel Aviv Artist's House.
Michal Vizer works with a monochromatic palette, usually black, white and ochre. In her work she expresses personal and disturbing feelings of concerns with her private life as a woman in the Kibbutz and in the world around her.
