Naman Gupta

Naman is a 23-year-old student from India currently living in Toronto. He is a traveler and a photographer. He travels to photograph and photographs to travel. He has been a photographer from as long as he can remember. The things around him have always fascinated him; from a bright green leaf to the lamp post on the corner of the street. Moreover, the black and white pictures have always awed him along with nature and animal images. National Geographic has been his big inspiration. His interest in traveling dictated his love for shooting people, places and cultures. He loves helping people, is a proud vegan and strongly believes animals have the same life and feel the same pain as we do and that they should be shown the same respect. He holds a firm belief that one man can make a difference. Someday, he wishes to help people and animals around the globe with his photography. He seriously thinks it is getting too late and he is getting too old for a world tour. Naman hopes to find appreciation for his work from people of different cultures. "Peace" from Naman.

“Photography can never be picked as a profession and then worked upon; rather it’s a passion that gradually molds into a profession. I travel to photograph and I photograph to travel. These two passions of mine go together very well and propel each other. As a photographer, I like to see people laugh, cry, think or simply react when they look at my images. These moments stimulate and augment the passion and life in me.
As a traveler, I want to see the different parts of the world, experience different cultures, live their lives, capture the heart and soul of various societies and prove that people of every culture, race, religion and country, deep down inside, are the same and that the desire of peaceful co-existence is what every man expects from another man.
Whenever I photograph, I feel capturing my creativity. I photograph to capture a moment in time, for life. The daily tender and un-posed things, the expressions, the non-faked faces tell the real story of life and make for the best images of all.
Through my photography, I want to help millions of starving and dying kids and the people around the globe who, unlike you and me, do not have the blessing of basic necessities in life. I feel pain for suffering life; humans and animals. I am a proud vegetarian and in the near future will use photography as a tool to promote vegetarianism.
My work reflects a blend of art, inspiration and creativity which is different from ordinary. I have received the compliment that my work is 'remarkable', 'fulfilling', 'unusual', 'strange', 'outstanding', 'queer', 'rare', and many more adjectives all depending on how people see it and what they see in it. My pictures are sometimes strange, but inspired and inspiring.
Black & White provides depth & character to an image. That said, I love colors --bright colorful colors. Colors are vital for a happy life. Without colors life would be, well so Black & White. Orange, Black and White, in that order, are some of my favorite colors. However, when it come to pictures Yellow (bright) is my obsession. It indicates a unique blend of happiness -- it makes me feel good; it’s an eye catching, out of the crowd color portraying all the qualities of my work.
It may not be the most beautiful, but, when I get a good shot, the shot that I wanted, the expression that I desired, the colors that I imagined, such moment makes me a happy and satisfied soul. But not for long as they say "an unsatisfied soul is the mother of all creations". And true. Soon I am again out, searching for another moment in time for my soul…"
