Sasha Endoh

My appreciation for art stems from growing up in a house full of art albums which exposed me to masters of painting, such as Hieronymus Bosch and Hans Memling. My parents had formal art training as part of their university education and were my first teachers of drawing, painting and composition. My exposure to art culture has been further broadened by immigrating from Russia to America at age twelve. I currently live and work in Montreal, Canada.
Having no formal art training has in no way deterred me from creating art. I have painted with acrylics, watercolors and oils, and have often combined these media. My paintings are generally abstract or surreal, allowing for color combinations and shapes to convey a mood without much need for concrete representations.

Considering that I perceive any given setting as an array of images, photography has been an organic extension of my consciousness. I use monochromatic images to communicate a statement by concentrating the viewer's attention on composition. In contrast, my color, and most of my nature images have a surreal atmosphere, a distortion meant to convey my intrinsic perception of objects and settings.
My works have been showcased at a local art collective space. I have also been fortunate enough to come in contact with a private collector who has purchased one of my photographs and has been integral in affirming my self-perception as an up-and-coming artist. It is my hope to make many such connections in order to perpetuate my presence as a painter and print art photographer.
