Tracy Ann Gavin

Tracy Ann Gavin was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick. She graduated from Saint Vincent's High School in 2001. She went on to attend the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design where she majored in Graphic Design, graduating in 2004. Graphic Design played a key role in her education as an artist. To create a work of art that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also visually interesting one must have a strong grasp of layout and design. Aside from the drawing and painting courses provided by NBCCD Tracy has also completed a beginner as well as an advanced traditional Chinese painting course and plans to continue taking various art courses. Tracy has been selling her work at Decor8 Finishing Touches in Brunswick Square for the past four years.

Artist's Statement
art-ist
–noun 1. a person who produces works in any of the arts that are primarily subject to aesthetic criteria.
2. a person who practices one of the fine arts, esp. a painter or sculptor.
3. a person whose trade or profession requires a knowledge of design, drawing or painting.
4. a person whose work exhibits exceptional skill.

I am an artist.
As a child I loved to color, draw and paint. The dirtier my hands were the more fun I had. As an adult all that has changed are the materials I use. Crayons to pastels, HB pencils to charcoal, inexpensive tempera to high quality acrylic, watercolor and Chinese ink.
The constant encouragement from family and friends has brought me to a point in my life where I am more content than I ever thought possible. My life's goal has always been to make a living doing what I absolutely love to do. I am still young and this goal is well on it's way to being achieved. I could not be more thankful for this.
Over the years I have fallen in love with many diverse styles of painting and I am determined to learn them all. I will likely never ""settle"" on just one style to call my own. Luckily there is no ""artist's rule"" that says I have to. However, if there was such a rule...I would, most certainly, break it.
