Troy Brooks

"The complex simplicity of the human face is something that has always fascinated me. I've been painting faces since before I could speak. I was Inspired by my mother to paint as she was proficient in watercolor and acrylic. I became obsessed and quite prolific as a child and by high school I was being commissioned to do portraits for people in our small town of Chatham ON.
Inspired by the works of Gustav Klimt, Lucian Freud and Chuck Close, I work with oils in many different styles with a careful attention to the marriage of color on the canvas and the subtle register of what's behind the eyes. The color sets the mood and the brush strokes translate the emotion of the piece. Recently I have been working on a series of small intimate impressionist portraits of people that move me in some way, favoring a passionate interpretation over fine detail."
